Regional raps from North Carolina!
Showdown and the Fire Department have a radio show on 102 Jamz, one of the two big rap stations in the Triad. 'Sausage' owes R. Kelly some publishing; first for the gross-out drip sound effect from 'Trapped in the Closet,' and second for borrowing corny sex-food rhymes from 'In the Kitchen.' (Closets and Kitchens: There are many rooms in the House of Kells). Showdown gets credit for taking his appetite for sex/food a step further and shouting out all the big girls
"132 pounds and up!"The Showdown myspace offers some terrible flavor of the month remixes, one steel drums and 'reggae-tinged,' and the other with generic crunk rock guitar loops and a fake Lil Jon. I can't see the rockstar movement going much further. It's too much about the signified and not enough about the sound, as evidenced here and discussed at
posse on blogway. I've been thinking about this, and I'll post more later.
