  krush groove
Dear Nancy Whang,

Happy Halloween. Hope you're resting up in New York City, searching for the De La Soul lazer Dunks on ebay and knitting a scarf for your sister. Are you going to dress up? I'll bet you've got an amazing, mind-blowing Stardust glam thing planned out or something. Anyway, I heard that you'd been getting back into Motown girl groups and been blazing that Devo Springsteen mixtape, so this, this right here, is for you.

  format it

That's Daft Punk at the bottom left, next to the Rocketeer, and just below a couple of Andy Warhols.

Busta Rhymes- Touch It

Pitchfork panned this track a couple weeks ago, but I've always found their hip-hop reviews fairly unreliable (i.e. I only pay attention to Hardly Sean). Swizz Beats samples final four bars of Daft Punk's vodocoded frag solioquy to technology, then slows it down to about 50bpm. The phrase words "daft punk hip-hop" (in any order) pretty much do it for me, but Busta comes pretty hard on the track, making up for his lacklaster performance on the soundalike "Ass on Fire" back on the Neptunes compliation. The song has the old Chad and Pharrell scary shit minimalism going on, but could be mistaken for the new wave of "let's only use four sounds" crunk that's so popular these days.

I've got a fairly hot blend that mixes the original "Technologic" sample, "Wait" and this song, but I rarely get it right.

play it over the "wanna love you girl" loop
I've been trying to get a bike for the last four years. Swooping on the pavement, cold wind in face, jacket blown open like wings, I feel like a little kid, finally getting the balance thing down, the whole whole open and free in front of the handle bars. Busted tires, stolen wheels, defective pedals have troubled the dream, but I'm still on the look out. Goodwill, what's really good?

Bubba had that huge single, tried to do hick-hop before big and rich ran train on that chick(en), and faded into relative obscurity. Once on Timbaland's ill-fated Beat Club imprint, he's now on Big Boi's Purple Label. Listening to this track, it sounds like Bubba's headed for the Polo store in a mall near you, not the outlet mall near them.

  more rocks than barney rubble
So I've been going through a major diplo phase lately, and it's sort of getting embarassing. I should really try to space out the posts or something. But I didn't, and well, I couldn't.

A guess you'd call this an interpolated remix. Ray Charles repeats his claim to woman ownership and money recievership over and over again, desperately trying to keep up with a heavy dose of Bodymore Murderland style drums. I think my favorite part comes towards the end of the song where Diplodocus chops up Kanye's nasty synth solo something fierce.

Reportedly, this one should show up on white lable soon. I'll bet it'll have his Mad Decent remix of "Stay Fly." on there as well. In more legal Diplo release news, look out for his Bloc Party and Beck remixes.

Think I can play this one out?

Dinosaur- Kiss Me Again (JD Twitch Edit)

Before I nerd the fuck out and say how cool this song is, give it a listen.

{Begin obligatory writery attempted wittism}: I think that somebody could age this song 40 years, make it a cop, convert it to Republicanism, take away its hair, force it to wear white socks with dress shoes and make it only talk about lawn care and it would still be cooler than Andy Warhol's ice box.

{Begin google journalist history, replete with pop cultured ephemra past and present}.
Avant Savant Arthur Russell penned this little number back in 1979. Some no-name named David Byrne played guitar, though he really wanted to building solo (look it up). That's Yoko Ono's drummer on the skins. After they recorded it, Larry Levan played it over and over again at the Paradise Garage. Then Twitch from Optimo gave it a sensible re-edit, making the good parts even gooder (and shorter).
